Sail Boat Fund Drive

Thus far, Club members’ generous donations have enabled SYC to order
five new Optimist dinghies for our Junior Sailing Program. This
represents a significant “change” in our program, for these
are much-needed, age-appropriate boats designed for youngsters
9 and older. They were not available before. Thank you so
much for your contributions.

The fund raiser is still ongoing.
We hope to reach our goal of including two new Pixels in the order.
The Pixel is at the other end of the sailboat spectrum from the Opti.
It is a sloop-rigged, high-performance, exciting dinghy with a nifty
spinnaker. It is also a stable sailing platform, relatively easy
to handle, and an excellent boat to transition into from the Sunfish
and Opti. The Pixel is our age-appropriate answer for students
11+ years old, including adults (parents?). It is important to
SYC, for it will help retain the sailing student’s interest by providing
a challenging boat to transition into and by promoting sailing as a
family experience. If this two Pixel goal is reached, the program’s
outlook will be ”very sunny” indeed. Those who wish
to contribute to the boat fund drive, please contact Harold Battarbee
at (hbattarbee@comcast.net) or (318) 676-9553. All contributions
will be put to good use and greatly appreciated.
